Still no audio? Plug the headset into the emergency jacks. If you have no intercom receive/transmit, fix that first. Check for proper intercom operation as well. Use a couple of different headsets just to make sure its not the headset itself. Check for audio at the pilots headset, and at each of the other headset stations. If you still have no audio in the headset, you'll need to continue to troubleshoot.
If all works well, you've just verified that the antenna was the original problem. Handheld works good at this point as you can see the guy shrug or wave as they try to transmit.
You'll need to talk to another radio such as the handheld mentioned above, or someone in another aircraft. Once you have a known good antenna installed, recheck the com side. In this case, it sounds like you need to replace the antenna anyways. Why do you suppose the antenna came with a gasket and Cessna painted under the antenna? This one had the antenna's gasket between the base and a painted surface making electrical contact through the four screws. How do I test the antenna? Is there supposed to be a certain resistance between the center conductor and the shield? Right now it is an open circuit.Īlso as Web has stated, there needs to be electrical contact between the antenna base and the ground plane. The base partially separated from the antenna but did allow me to push it back together. The base stuck to the gasket which stuck to the cabin top. So I took the antenna off the cabin top to see if there was any oxidation between the base and the cabin top. Since there is no audio, I have no idea if anyone can hear a transmission.
The nav side still talks through a separate antenna. The com audio on my nav-com stopped talking.
